Diet and Lifestyle in Rainy Season

Ayurveda recommends to follow specific lifestyle and diet during each season to maintain our health. The rainy season or Varsha Ritu is categorised under the utharayan kala. It is noted that the body strength or bala of an individual becomes weak. There is increase in vata dosha and accumulation of pitta dosha in the body. So all our regimen should aim at balancing these two doshas. During rainy season, it is noted that our metabolic rate falls. Many digestive upsets including loss of appetite is felt. As the digestive fire or agni is weak, our food habits should change.

  • Consume light and freshly cooked foods only.
  • Foods should be sweet, salt and sour in taste.
  • Drink only boiled water.
  • Avoid non-veg is diet which is heavy for digestion
  • Avoid sleeping during day time.
  • Over eating and over exertion is to be avoided.
  • Apart from personal hygeine, the surroundings should always be maintained clean.
